Join our new Instructional Materials Committee

We are looking for parents and guardians, staff, and community members to serve on our new Instructional Materials Committee.

The Instructional Materials Committee (IMC) is formed to monitor the evaluation and recommendation of instructional materials for adoption by the Shelton School Board. The IMC’s role is to review the recommendations of adoption committees and educational staff and ensure that recommended materials conform to:

  1. Applicable state and federal laws
  2. Goals and/or learning standards of the district and state; and
  3. Evaluation criteria approved by the IMC

The IMC in its review also ensures that adoption decisions were fair and unbiased to potential selections under evaluation and that the processes included appropriate representation from stakeholders.  

Responsibilities of Instructional Materials Committee Members 

  • Attend ALL scheduled meetings 
  • Adhere to agreed-upon group norms
  • Contribute to the group’s work

In addition, all instructional materials committee members must display the following qualities:

  • Ability to listen to and consider all perspectives and points of view
  • Interpersonal and communication skills contributing to group work and discussions
  • Ability to abide by majority decisions of the committee
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality to ensure fairness in commercially competitive transactions

If you are interested in joining the Instructional Materials Committee, please submit an application for membership. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Oct 17, 2023. Committee members will be notified by email of their application status by October 20, 2023.

The IMC first meeting will take place on November 1, 2023, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 at the district office in the downstairs conference room.
